I TESTING THE HERDS. MATAMATA PRODUCTION. : (From Our Own Correspondent.) M I.TAMATA, Wednesday. Matamata district groups of the Xew ' Zealand Co-operative Herd Testing Association started oft' the new dairying season well, according to the testing figures for August. Xe Poi's 839 tested cows had the good production of 0551b of milk, 4.6:2 -test and 301b ot' butterfat per cow. Jn the group were two herds that averaged 371b of' fat per cow, and one cow that produced 631b of fat. The Hinuera group's 946 cows gave 6351J) of milk, a test of 4.6 and 291b of butterfr.t per cow. One herd of 36 cows averaged 421b of milk, and the top cow had the remarkably high production of 871b of fat for August. The Mangawhero-Matamata group averaged 311 b of fat for 768 cows, the milk production being 6391b with an average test of 4.81. The best herd was one of 52 cows averaging 401b of fat, and its top cow gave 6Cl'b of fat. ■ In the large Waharoa group 1315 cows averaged 6301'b of milk, a 4.66 test and 291b of butterfat. The top cow gave 69l'b of fat, the best herd average was 431b for a herd of 31 cows. Walton group had the high average of 321b of fat for its 649 cows under test. There was a milk production of 6751b, and an average test of 4.69. One cow gave 731b of fat for the month, and the best herd wa6 one of 38 cows averaging 411b of fat. xVgarii.Vs 789 cows averaged 6641b of milk, 4.65 test and 311b of fat. A small herd of 19 cows averaging 371'b of fat topped the list, and the leading cow gave 691b of fat. In Manawaru group were 977 cows averting 311b of fat. The top -cow gave 751b ot fat, and one herd averaged 391b of fat for 30 cows. Tii'au group's 966 cows averaged 5151b of milk,, 4.7t)_ test and 2olb of butterfat. A herd of 25 cows averaged 411b of fat, and 601b of fat was the highest for any cow. The 1037 cows in Okoroire group made a good start to the season with 6371b of milk, 4.62 test and 291b of fat per cow. The top individual cow was credited with 701b of fat for the month, and the best herd average was 351b of fat for 59 cows.
