FINED FOR SPEEDING.

MOTORISTS BEFORE COURT.

ONE LICENSE ENDORSED. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) TE AWAMUTU, Wednesday. In the Magistrate's Court to-day, Inspector Metcalfe, for the Main Highways Board, prosecuted Henry P. Carr, of " Hamilton, for speeding through Ohaupo on July 25. The inspector said he saw Carr approaching at a high speed, so he turned "round his own vehicle. Defendant whizzed past at a high speed. The inspector added that he had to drive a,t 05 miles per hour, but he did not overtake the defendant till he skidded to a stop in avoiding some loose horses on the road. The magistrate imposed a fine of £3 and costs 10/ on defendant, remarking that had it been a second offence he would have cancelled defendant's license. . , . Arthur F. Pearson, of Orakei, was similarly charged with an offence pn the same date. Inspector. Metcalfe said that when he was driving from Hamilton to Te Awamutu at about 45 miles per hour, the defendant overtook him travelling very fast.. The inspector went up to 05 miles an hour to overtake the defendant, who passed through a township at 50 miles an hour. When overtaken the defendant said he was hurrying to Palmerston North. Defendant was fined £5 and his license was endorsed. The magistrate said that if it had been defendant's second offence he would have cancelled hi* I license for 12 months. Eric Ulander. of New Plymouth, for speeding, was also fined £2 10/ and costs 10/.
