ORDER AND CHAOS.
TAKAPUNA COUNCIL DEBATE. RIVAL OPINIONS EXPRESSED. In a letter which he had sent to the Takapuna Borough Council and which was discussed at last night's meeting, the Mayor, Mr. J. Guiniven, considered that the committee system was a failure and should be abolished at the earliest opportunity. "We should know where we are and what works are costing us, then we would get something done," said Mr. Guiniven. "We should meet as a council every two weeks. The way we are going on is only engendering further cliaos." The chairman of the works committee and the deputy-Mayor, Mr. S. White, said that the committee system had resulted in order being restored after a period of chaos. More permanent work had been done by the works committee during the fast six months than had been carried out for the last six years. No proper programme of j works had been drawn up before the ■ works committee had taken office, The discussion that ensued between the Mayor and several councillors | became heated at times. The Mayor's j letter was received.
