Competition was steady throughout, with little or 110 alteration 011 last week's sale. Extra choice ox sold to 36/ per 1001b; choice and prime, 32/ to 35,/; secondary, and plain, 26/ to 29/; prime young cow and heifer beef, 29/ to 35/; secondary, 22/ to 23/. Extra, he.iivy prime steers ranged in price from £15 to £15 10/;• heavy, £13 10/ to £14 15/; lighter, £12 to £13 •V; bght, £9 10/ to £11 15/; small and unfinished, £8 to £9 5/. There was keen competition, with valuer \ery firm on last week's quotations. Dalgety and Co., Ltd. Calves.—Calves were penned in less than average numbers and values for all classes ruled very firm 011 last week's quotations. Beef.—We sold 174 head of cows and heifers, against 179 last week. The quality of the offering was fully up to the average and, selling under a steady "demand, we have to report a clearance at last week's rates. Extra choice ox sold to 36' per 1001b; choice and prime, 32/ to 35/; secondary and plain, 28/ to 31/; prime young cow and heifer beef, 33/ to 35/; secondary, 27/ to 32/. Extra heavy prune young cows and heifers, £10 10/ to £11: heavy, £8 17/6 to £10 5/; lighter, £7 10/ to £8 15/; light, £5 to £7 5/; others, £2 to £4 10/. Alfred Buckland and Sons, Ltd. Beef. Our yarding of fat cattle numbered 240 head, comprising 70 steers and 170 cows and heifers, as against 206 head last week. Demand was steady throughout the sale and values were firm at last week's quotations. Competition for cows aiul heifers was less keen and values eased slightly. The demand for ox beef was steady. Extra choice ox sold to 30/ per 1001b; choice and prime, 32/ to 34/; secondary and plain, 29/ to 31/; prime young cow and heifer beef, 32' to .34./; secondary, 21/ to 28/. Extra heavy prime steers ranged in price from £13 10/ to £15; heavy, £12 10/ to £13; lighter, £11 10/ to £12 5/; light, £10 to £10 15/; small and unfinished, £7 10/ to £9.
