AUCKLAND ASSOCIATION. NEW SHIELD DISTRICT ? A MAHARAJAH'S DILEMMA. Mr. W. R. Fee presided at last night's meeting of the Auckland Cricket Association, at which a letter was received from the Manavvatu Association, suggesting the inclusion of a fifth team in the Plunket Shield competition By the creation of a Plunket Shield district consisting of the nine minor associations in the Wellington district, with headquarters at Palmerston North. Manawatu Association considered that the improved cricket shown in districts covered by such associations as Taranaki, Hawke's Bay and Manawatu justifiad such a move, and that the present Plunket Shield system was not in the best interests of New Zealand cricket as a. whole, in that promising country players did no t receive the recognition they deserved. The New Zealand Council in forwarding the letter, stated that {he matter would be discussed at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Association at Christchurch next month. The committee decided to defer consideration of the question until the return of the Auckland chairman from his visit to the South. Advice that arrangements for a proposed tour of New Zealand by an Indian team i had been definitely cancelled, was received from the Dominion Council, which stated that matters of extreme difficulty had arisen in the State of Nawanagar, making it impossible for the Maharajah to carry out the proposed visit. The Auckland University Club offered its congratulations on the initiative shown by the association in proposing a capital endowment scheme, and the club promised its fullest support in the matter. Mr. Hugh Duncan reported that the Pukekohe Association had expressed a desire to be permitted to enter a team in the association's senior 15 grade competition. The Pukekohe body had advised | that, in the event of its application being [accepted, it would not expect city teams to travel to the country. Members of the committee pointed out- that, according to a by-law of the association, a team entering the senior B competition was required to field a junior team as well. It was resolved to notify the Pukekohe Association that before its application could be considered it would have to give an assurance that it would be able to field two teams. The secretary. M'\ A. W. Christmas, was also appointed tieasurer, and Mr. E. •T. Price assistant secretary and treasurer.
