HELENSVILLE NEWS.

A successful afternoon was given by Mrs. J. Mackie at her residence last week in aid of funds for the Croquet Club. Bowls of stocks, tulips and poppies decorated the drawing room, where bridge was played, and the hostess received her guests wearing a frock of cinnamon brown cloque relieved with lace'. At tK'e close of "play Mrs. Ellett (president) thanked Mrs. Mackie for her generosity in giving the afternoon and stated that nearly £3 would be added to the funds. The winners of the bridge were Mrs. H. Wilson (first), Mrs. Walters (hidden number), Mrs. Robinson (consolation). Among those present were: Mesdames Ellett '(president). H. Wilson, Dods, Dwerryhouse, Sheffield, Cairns, C. Sandin, Rennie, Robinson, Quarrie, Stanaway, White, Lambert, Dixon, Thomson, Walters, Aickin, Lyons, Os.borne, Brock, 'Screaton, Stinson, Livesey, Hunt.

At the Anglican Ladies' Guild, Helensville, occasion was taken to bid farewell to Mrs. Sellars, a faithful guild member for many years, ' who' Is leaving the district to reside in Wellsford. On behalf of the members of the guild, Mrs. Parsons (president} . presented the guest; of honour with a lovely jug vase and wished her a happy sojourn in her neW place of residence. In the evening the choir Of St. Mathew's Church entertained Mrs. Sfellars at a in the Parish Hall. Competitions, games and dancing occupied the time, and Miss Pat Carleton and Mr. A. E. L. Dodd rendered solos. Mr. Truman mystified the company with his sleight of hand tricks. Supper was provided by the choir after which Rev. Parsons presented. Mrs. Sellars on behalf of the .choir, of which she has been a member for many years, with a flowered fruit bowl and dish.
