CROQUET OPENING.
PAPATOETOE CLUB. In conjunction with the bowling club the Papatoetoe croquet ladies opened their lawns for th 6 twenty-third season on Saturday. The president, Mrs. R. Parker-Hill, welcomed the many visitors and introduced Mrs. McGill, who represented 1 the Auckland Croquet Centre. The first ball was driven by Mrs. J. Bryant, one of the foundation member 9 of the club. A feature of the afternoon. was the opening of. the croquet clubroom. Members, with the assistance of Mr. G. Runciman and Mr. F. Wells, have been busy during the winter months renovating and redecorating the clu'broom and the work was commented upon favourably, by the visitors present, KOHIMARAMA. The Kolliiuaraima Croquet Club held the final, of a series of card parties in the Selwyn Hall, Kohimarama recently. Prize winners were: Bridge, Mesdames Applevard, Morgan and Whaley; 500, Mrs. Webster, Mr. Cole and Mrs. Watkins. Special prizes were donated to Mesdames Appleyard, Waters and Lovatt, and Mr. Appleyayd. Those present were: Mesdames Fawcett (president), Whaley, Moore, Bain, Todd, Goodison, Davidson, Teaney, Piper, Soper, Birks, Burgess, Lovatt, Watkin, Ansenne, Stanton, Casde, Maunder, Bell, Waters, W. Webster, Pellegrini, Appleyard and Morgan. EPSOM CLTJB. The Epsom Croquet Club's season was opened on Saturday, tinder ideal weather , conditions and with the lawns in excellent trim for play. The president, Mrs. C. J. Blakey, welcomed the guests wearing a navy suit and hat and carrying a bouquet in the club's cojours. On behalf of the City Council Miss Melville addressed the gathering, stressing the benefit of the relief workers' efforts on the Gillies Avenue Reserve, where the lawns are situated. „Mr's. McGill, for the Auckland executive, wished all players a successful season. Tea was served by the committee from tables well laden and gaily decorated with anemones ana ferns by Mrs, Collins. Prizes were won by Mrs. Baker and„ Miss Hodge, Mrs. Jackson and Mrs. Mynott. TAKAPUNA OPENING. A large number of -members and friends were present at the official openings Saturday afternoon of the Takapuna Croquet Club, the president welcomed the guests, and declared the greens open for play* ■ Mrs. Flinn, representing the executive, wished the club a happy and successful year, and Mr. Duddilig spoke on behalf of the bowling club, expressing their good wishes for a successful season. Afternoon tea was served in the bowling pavilion, the tables looking very bright with flowers in the* club colours. Progressive croquet was played during the afternoon, the winners being: (A) Mrs. Newell, (B) Miss Rowe; consolation prize: (A) Mrs. Veale, (B) Mrs. Marsland. Among those present were: Mesdames Flinn, Newell, Robertson; Johnstone, Davies, Cutler, Audley, Elliott, Bromfield, Haines, Reader, Denham, Smale, Harford, Reakes, P™* ll ' Pullar, Keatley, Mills, Day .Miles Thompson, Gilbert, Lawrence, Findlay, Veale Nagle, Amodeo, Runciman, Taylor, Cooper, McKelvie, Eckett, Robin, Ashwin Newson, Marsland, Gregory, Barage. Stephenson, Misses White, Friend (2), Guthrie, and Stares.
