ORANGES A LUXURY.
It is high time that the New Zealand Government took steps to make supplies of oranges available to the public at a price within the reach of the average family purse, purely the health of the many should be considered before the financial interests of the few. What is the use of telling mothers to give their children plenty of oranees when the price for each is seldom below 2M or 3d each? We hear of schemes for national insurance to cure us when we are ill. When will it he recognised that it is cheaper to erect a fcnce at the top of a precipice than to maintain an ambulance at the bottom? There is great need to educate people to av sense of personal responsibility for sickness—the whole question of diet is 'of paramount importance — but a start, at least could be made by emphasising the need for protective foods and then making it financially possible for sll sections of the community to include oran-Tes in their daily bill of fare. A MOTHER.
