ADMITTANCE NOT REFUSED
REPLY TO INQUIRIES*. '
When inquiries were made in official 1 uarters this afternoon it was learnt when Graves called at the main door of the Auckland gaol last night and asked to be admitted to the prison he was told by the warder on duty, who-spoke, to him through the "peep-hole," that he could not admit him until he got the officer who held the keys to open the main gate. The warder left 'to procure the officer who held the keys, but when he returned to. the gate, it was stated, Graves had left, having previously stated that, if he could not be taken in he would go to the police. It was pointed out that in such a place as a prison the gates could not he opened indiscriminately at' night to admit whoever called.
