AUSTRALIAN "THRILLER."

"Boom Time Gold," by G. AA r . AVicking (Angus and Robertson), is a thriller, with the scenes laid in Australia. The chief figure is Jim McPherson, a sixfoot young man who is "some" boxer. He is also headstrong and impulsive, refuses to avail himself of the fortune his father has left him because of a provision in the will that reflects on his wisdom, goes off to America, where he amasses a fortune of his own, and returns to Australia, where he gives and spends it with astonishing recklessness. He buys a station in a remote part of the country, learns that gold is mysteriously hidden in it and learns, too, that a gang of crooks are aware of the fact and are after it and him. It is then that the thrills begin, blended with Jim's love affairs. It is an amusing and exciting yarn, written with gusto.
