STEAMER WINGATUI. RECENT FIRE IN NO. 3 HOLD. CARGO TO BE UNLOADED. The Union Steam Ship Company's steamer Wingatui, which put into Napier on the way up to Auckland from Dunedin with a fire in her No. 3 hold, arrived at Auckland this afternoon. When the fire was discovered the Wingatui was about nine hours' steam from Napier, and as she made for port preparations were. made ashore to give assistance. It was found that the lire had not obtained a big hold, there had been no structural damage, and the only damage was to a few packages of general cargo and a email quantity of lime, which had been caused by the latter smouldering. After the damaged cargo had been removed the Wingatui left for Auckland. It was stated to-day by . company officials that until all the cargo was taken out of the hold the actual assessment of the damage could not be made.
