TRADERS SQUEEZED.
DAIRY FACTORY SALES. MUNICIPAL VALUES AFFECTED. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) TE PUKE, this day. An appeal to the Government to protect private traders in Te Puke against competition by the Co-operative Dairy Company was contained in a signed statement to the Industries and Commerce Committee of the House of Representatives last week. It was suggested by Mr. Jamieson, a member of the Borough Council, who said the council was seriously alarmed about; the possibility of such trading reducing the rateable value of land in the borough. ' Mr. Jamieson" expressed the view that dairy factory trading should be restricted to manures, farm implements and seeds, It had beeil announced by Mr. Wylie, in connection with tlie chain store petition to the Government, that he was calling witnesses. Mr. Wylie had Said that individual firms were afraid to give evidence, fearing victimisation.
