DR. McMILLAN'S STIR. ; — \ UNCLAIMED PROPERTY. ; MINISTER QUOTES ACT. (By Telegraph.-— Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday. A stir throughout New Zealand was caused a few weeks ago when Dr. D. G. McMillan (Government, Dunedin West), from his place in tlio House of Representatives, gave notice to ask the Minister of Health (Mr. Fraser) "Whether he will take steps to ensure that the wedding rings of women who die in public hospitals are buried with them." In a note attached to the question Dr. McMillan said: "The wedding rings of women who die in some public hospitals, and who have no relatives, are removed and sold by the boards." Replying to this question to-day the Minister said: "It is not agreed that the suggested steps should be taken. Personal property of a deceased person must be preserved and delivered to the cxecutor or administrator of the deceased's estate,' and under section 5 of the Hospitals and Charitable Institutions Amendment Act, 1928, unclaimed personal property must be retained for at least two years before it is disposed ! of."
