THE MORO DATU'S WIVES.
MOST MARRIED MAN. Kakai Dagalangit, a Moro Datu of high rank in the Barrio of Maguing, Lanao Province, is the most married man in the Philippines. The Datu, fiftyodd years old, has thirty wives, many of them young, all acquired under Moro laws despite a Philippine law which fr.rbids polygamy. The Datu, through his multiple marriages, has risen to great power becaufec of the size of his clan.
Kakai started on his career of marraiges while in his teens, and his first wife is as old as he is. He has made it a point to acquire a wife each year. Moro marriage rites are intricate. The Moro seeking a bride finds a girl of equal rank, and then informs his people of his choice. If the dowry set aside is acceptabel to both parties the marriage date is fixed.
