STEWARDS' OFFENCES.
NEARLY £700 INVOLVED.
LETTERS THROWN IN SEA. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. Two stewards, Frederick James (20) and Peter John Frederick Ransom (17), pleaded guilty at the Magistrate's Court to-day to theft on the New Zealand Shipping Company's liner Rangitane, between Panama and Wellington, of £410 in money, letters of credit for £100 and £80, and a bank draft for £100, the property of the New Zealand Shipping Company. The chief steward said Ransom, on a second interview, admitted taking the money, and James admitted being with him when the offence was committed Accused produced the missing money, but said that if tliey had taken any letters of credit they liad been thrown overboard, together with certain envelopes. Detectiva-Sergeant Tricklebank said both accused made statements clearing up the matter. Accused were , committed to the Supreme. Court for sentence.
