MAN KILLED IN QUARRY.
EVIDENCE AT INQUEST. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) TE AWAMUTU, this day. The inquest touching *tlie death of Thomas Charles Oates, a farmer, of Te jVlawhai, who was killed at the Te Kawa quarry on August 24, was concluded to-day before Mr. G. A. Empson, coroner. Hugh Prince, blacksmith at the quarry, said he saw a loaded truck approaching the crusher slowly, with James Pene standing on the brake. He saw Oates step in front of the truck to clear some small metal from the line, and heard Pene call out "Look out." Witness then saw Oates endeavour to step clfear, but he slipped, and the truck passed over him. The truck did not strike Oates before he fell. Reginald Sclioen, quarry inspector, of Huntly, said he thought that .all reasonable precautions had been taken at the quarry. The coroner recorded a verdict of accidental death. IL
