ENCOURAGING LARGER FAMILIES.
As the father of a family of five I consider it a large family and so would the Minister of Health if he" had had to feed and clothe them in the last two or three years on an average of 30/ a week. You said editorially that to encourage larger families it might be necesearv to raise the upper limit of qualification for the family allowance, les, my wife "cts the allowance, 2/ per head per week for a°family of three or more (the first two don't count), and my wife tells me that the questionnaire she gets from the Depaitment to fill in is worse than child birth. Anyway, why quote the small wage man? Why not include our elite? Surely 2/ a head should attract quite a lot of the upper classes, most of whom are childless. It is a pity the Minister wouldn't concentrate on feeding and clothing the hundreds of children we-have now before lie starts encouraging more. This, to my mind, is the vicious circle —encourage larger families, compulsory military training, larger standing army, war —and in your old age" a handful of lead medals. FATHER.
