SMASH AT PARAPARAUMU. NEGLIGENCE NOT SUGGESTED. (By Telegraph.—l'ress Association.) WELLINGTON, Friday. There will be no Departmental inquiry into the express train's accident at l'araparaunm on Sunday. A Departmental inquiry is usually held only when the cause of an accident is in doubt or negligence is suspected. In the present case the ordinary operating procedure was followed by all concerned, the accident happening at a spot where trouble had not been experienced before with shifting country. Departmental officers will, however, make a complete investigation and submit full reports to the general mamigei, Mr. G. H. Mackley, who will transmit these to the Minister of Railways, the • lion. D. G- Sullivan.
The line is now clear for normal traffic. The locomotive, which is lying by the side of the line, will probably be moved on Sunday.
