AN EXPERIMENT.

BOROUGH STREET LIGHTING

MOUNT EDEN DECISION.

Tlie Auckland Electric Power Board is to be aaked to install a number of experimental highway lighting fittings of the gaseous discharge type, both mercury and sodium, in either Dominion or Mount Eden Roads. This was decided upon at last night's meeting of the Mount Eden Borough Council. The question was raised by Mr. E. E. Greenfield, who said that the lighting of the borough was bad and tlie council was not getting value for the money expended in lighting. Particularly were the side streets badly lighted. In recent years, he said, much experimenting had been done in the hope of producing the perfect light for streets. It was possible that in the next 3 - ear or two the perfect light would be discovered, and to go to the expense of putting in certain lights at present used might mean a waste of money. He had waited upon the Power Board and suggested the council should request the board to install five mercury and five sodium lights In the borough. The Power Board was willing to install the lights. The installation was decided upon.
