DEATH OF MAORI CHILD

" WHY WAS DOCTOR NOT CALLED ?"

An inquest was opened before Mr. Wyvern Wilson, S.M., coroner, following the death of a Maori child at the Orakei Pa on Thursday. The child was Tahuna Enoka Downs, aged twelve months, the son of Tommy Downs. When giving evidence, the mother. Hangaia Downs, said th&t the child had been suffering from teething sickness. She did not call a doctor as she thought he would get well. The Coroner: Why did you not call the doctor who attends the pa? Witness: I did not think the boy was ill enough. After ordering a post-inorte::! examination the coroner adjourned the inquest until this weak.
