ITALY'S STRENGTH
MUSSOLINI'S BOAST. Control Seas, Land and Skies Says II Duce. PERPETUAL PEACE TABU. United Press Association.—Copyright. (Received 1.30 p.m.) ROME, August 30. Buglers having sounded "Silence," Signor Mussolini spoke "for the Array and for the nation" to thousands assembled in the little town of Avellino. Loud-speakers for a-mile along the main, street broadcast his words, which marked the termination of the grand southern manoeuvres.
"With a simple word Italy can mobilise 5,000.000 men in a few hours," declared II Duce. "The sacrifices of Fascism declare that internal and external peace he safeguarded, while rejecting the idea of perpetual peace, which is contrary to Fascist doctrine. We desire to live as long as possible in peace with all.
"It is impossible to stop the armament race. We control the seas, land and skies. We must be strong—always stronger —and able to look destiny in the face, subordinating our national life to this."
