OVERSEAS TRADE.

INCREASES IN JULY. EXPORTS MUCH HIGHER. The satisfactory condition of the country's overseas trade is well maintained in the returns for the month of July, released yesterday by the Customs Department in Wellington. Exports at £4,680,000 are nearly a million and a half higher than they were in July, 1935. Imports also show continued advance, but not to the same extent. As a consequence the so-called "favourable" balance has increased to £ 1,140,000, as against £271,000 in July last year. Following is a comparison of the returns for July in the la6t three years, exclusive of specie, in New Zealand currency:—

The value of specie exported in July, which is not included in the previous figures, was £400, none being imported. For the seven-monthly period exports, were at £37,600 and imports at £14,040.
