CANTERBURY PRODUCE.
EXPORT OF POTATOES. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Friday. The possibility of a fourth shipment of potatoes being made to South America has been freely discussed in the trade this week, and the market has in consequence remained fully firm. There is little actual business passing, but until definite news is received of the export position there is likely to be little movement in prices. Prompt whites are worth £4 5/ to £4 10/ on trucks, and Dakot.as £4 15/. There is practically no business in forward potatoes.
The small seeds market continues to be fairly actively engaged with normal spring demand, and a steady quantity of business going through, but very little for export. Stocks of most lines are sufficient to satisfy all normal requirements of this country, and unless there is a demand from overseas any great variation in price is unlikely. With resumption of trade a fair quantity of cocksfoot is being offered from Banks Peninsula by growers who held earlier in the year. The amount is rather more than was expected, but as the quality varies enormously there is not enough to have upset the market. Prices range from Gd to B%d for exceptionally good samples. Some of the seed offered is not marketable at all. Offerings have also come forward from the Plains recently and business has been done at about 7d. Overseas inquiry for ryegrass has stopped and there have been no further movements in prices. The' fescue, brown-top, dogstail and clover markets remain steady. More chaff' is offering, and there has been a decline in price to £2 17/6 to £3 a ton. Oat threshing has been resumed, and there is considerably more offering. TheSnarket is weaker, but prices have not altered quotably. yet Algerians have had a better demand. Fowl wheat is steady ,at 4/6, but as threslrng ; s being undertaken again there is more offering.
