AUCKLAND TROTS.

THE AUGUST MEETING. SUCCESS OF KING'S PLAY. NERVIE'S LAST THE SPRINT. The August meeting of the Auckland Trotting Club, held at Alexandra Park, -was a splendid success, and the racing provided the keenest competition. The principal event, the August Handicap, resulted in a fine victory for King's Play, ■who has now won at his last three (starts over two miles. The open sprint was annexed by Nervie's Last, who had previously finished third in the August Handicap. In the Onehunga Handicap King's Guide beat Kewpie's Bond by a head, but owing to King's Guide galloping past the post the pracings were reversed, and Kewpie's Bond was placed first, and returned her supporters over a score on the win machine. During the day the sum of £20,919 was handled by the totalisator, compared with £13,557 last year, an increase of £7362. The Favourite Scores. The scratching of Ironside left half a dozen to go to the post for the August Handicap, the chief event of the day. King's Play carried most money, but there was also support for Star Pronto and Nervie's Last. The public were well on the mark, for that is'the way they finished. They all went away well, Our McKinney and Rockella leading out, and passing the stands they were attended by Nervie's Last, Star Pronto, King's Play and Gold Dredge, with Star Pronto making a forward move, and when they came round again he was lying second to Rockella, with Nervie's Last, King's Play, Our McKinney and Gold Dredge next. Star Pronto took charge along the-back, with King's Play, Rockella and Nervie's Last following. King's Play led into the straight from Star Pronto, Nervie's Last and Rockella and won easily by three lengths from Star Pronto, who beat Nervie's Last by two lengths and a half. Rockella was ten lengths away, with Our McKinney and Gold Dredge next.

Replica's Good Win. Tollgate was scratched for tlie Grey Lynn Handicap and the bulk of the money came for Great Jewel, Sir Frank and Replica. Roadster and Bedford were slow away, while Derby Fame stood on the mark and took no part in the race. Bedford, however, soon settled, down and when the field was fairly on its way Sir Frank was in front with Bedford, Replica, Home Brew, Royal Jewel, Great Jewel and Kenworthy following. Passing the stands at the end of a round Sir frank was still the pilot from Replica, Silver Black, Home Brew, Kewpie's Crest, Norrie Rock and Bedford, who had broken again. Along the back Sir Frank held his position from Replica, with Home Brew two lengths away, followed by Silver Black, Kewpie's Crest, Great Jewel and Bedford. Replica and Sir Frank 'were together across the top and into the straight, three lengths ahead-of Home Brejv, Great Jewel, Baron Grand and Kenworthy. Replica held onto beat Sir {Frank by three-quarters of Tl length, with Baron Grand half a length" away. Then came Home Brew, Great Jewel, Kewpie's Crest, Charteris Bay and Royal Jewel.

The Royal Oak Handicap. All paraded fpr the Koyal Oak Handicap arid Meadow , King, Waikato Prince and. Young Rodney commanded most attention in the betting. Dilfashion broke'along the back and passing the stands the first time -Golden Eagle had charge from Young/Rodney, Mountain Son, Gala Day, Autumn Lou, Audo Patch, Waikato Prince and Meadow King. Entering on the last round Golden Eagle was followed by Young Rodney, Mountain Son, Gala Day, Waikato Prince (who received a bad check), Meadow Kincr and Audo Patch. Along the back there was littlf change except that Meadow King broke. Golden Eagls and Young Rodney Jed into the straight, four lengths clear of Gala Day, Waikato Prince (who was skipping) and Meadow King, and in the run home Young Rodney drew out to win by. five lengths from Meadow' King, who beat Gala Day by half a iead. Golden Eagle and Waikato Prince were next. Galloped Past Post. All, withHithe exception of Winaway, ■went to ''the"! post for the Onehunga Handicap. : King's Guide was favourite, with Star Pronto and Silk Cord next in demand. The last-named broke at the start'and Star Pronto'was slow to get moving, Parochial leading out from King's Guide, Kewpie's Bond, Guid Hairst and Silk Cord, who was six lengths away. When they had .completed a circuit King's Guide in front with Parochial, . Guid Hairst Kewpie's Bond, Our McKinney, Star Pronto and Luminate racing • * named. There was no alteration along the back, and King's Guide led into the home stretch from- Parochial, Star Pronto, Kewpie's Bond, Our McKinney and Guid Hairst. About 100 yards from the post' King's Guide broke, but settled down again. However, he lelt his feet again just before reaching the post and galloped past it, getting the verdict by a head from Kewpies Bond, with Our McKinney a length and a hall away third, followed by Star Pronto, Luminate, Parochial and Guid 'Hairst. An inquiry was held by the stewards regarding King's Guide galloping past the post and they decided to alter the placings, making Kewpie's Bond first and King's Guide second. Another to F. J. Smith. Munga Tangi and Tollgate were most sought after in the Orakei Handicap and they finished in the reverse order. Transworthy was slow away, Baron Grand being "first to show out from Tollgate, Munga Tangi and Bismuth. Passing the stands Tollgate was in charge from Mun<*a Tangi, Baron Grand, Lucky Love, Aro-olfs, General Sarsfield, Bismuth and Kewpie's Crest. Tollgate was followed into the straight by Munga Tangi (who skipped a. little), Lucky- Love, Baron -Grand and Argolis, and went on to win by two lengths from Munga Tangi, with Lucky Love the same distance away. Kewpie's Crest, Argolis, Baron Grand and Proletarian were next. The Concluding Event.

Our McKinney and Gold Dredge were not harnessed up for the Massey Memorial, with which the meeting concluded, Nervie's Last and Ironside being best backed. . Rockella and Lady Fame lost some ground at the start. Nervie s Last quickly hit the front and . going past the stands was just clear of Ironside, with Hohoro and Manoeuvre followin". There was no alteration along the

back, except that Lady Fame had run into fourth place. Entering the straight Nervie's Last was about a length clear of Ironside, with Lady Fame and Hohoro next. Nervie's Last went on to win by a length and a half from Ironside, who beat Rockella by a similar distance. Hohoro was fourth. Later results:— AUGUST HANDICAP of £250 ana trophy valued at £25.
