DEATH IN HOSPITAL.

YCUNG RUGBY FOOTBALLER. HEAD INJURY AT AVCNDALE. While playing in a fourth grade game at Avondale 011 Saturday afternoon, a young Eugbv footballer, Gordon Candy, aged 20, suffered a severe head injury ami died in hospital later. Playing against Suburbs, Gordon Candy was a forward for Technical Old Boys. Shortly before half-time he was seen lying 011 the ground unconscious, although nobody saw how he was injured. He was taken in a St. John ambulance to the Auckland Hospital, where ho died at 0.20 p.m. A member of the Tcchn.cal Old Boys' Club for a number of years, Gordon Candy, who was single, and lived at 455, Mount Eden Road, had played for the fifth grade team last year, which won the championship. He was employed by tho Auto Machine Manufacturing Company. An inquest was opened this morning.
