SOUTH ISLAND SLIPS.
RAIL TRAFFIC DISORGANISED. EXPRESSES HELD UP. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, this day. Railway traffic is seriously disorganised by a slip on the main north lino in a cutting north of Purakanui, near tlio cliffs section, which came down at 10 o'clock last night, covering 14 yards of the permanent way to a depth of 4ft. The midnight express for Christcliurch was held up till 2.30 this morning, when the line was reported clear. When the train reached Purakanui, however, another slip blocked the way, and the train returned to Dunedin. Its 300 passengers, including the Canterbury and South Canterbury Rugby teams, were taken to Waitati by a fleet of buses this morning, being there transhipped to the down night train from Christcliurch, which returned north while its Southern passengers were brought to Dunedin by bus. It is hoped to dispatch the ordinary north expiess before noon. north-bound limited. ARRIVES THREE HOURS LATE. The Limited express from Wellington to Auckland arrived in Auckland at 12.43 this afternoon, three hours behind the time at which she is scheduled to arrive. The late running was caused by a slip on the line near Paraparaumu railway station, where the south-bound Limited express crashed yesterday morning. The north-bound Limited was forced to make a detour and travel by way of the Wairarapa section over the Rnnutaka incline to Palmerston North, an additional distance of aboutj 50 miles.
