HOMESTEAD DESTROYED.

FAMILY'S NARROW ESCAPE,

BLENHEIM, this day.

Formerly one of the.finest homesteads in the district, "Burleigh," a twostoreyed sixteen-room residence, owned by Mr. J. W. Douglas, and occupied by his manager, Mr. W. Arthur, was totally destroyed by fire at midnight. Mr. Arthur and his family escaped narrowly in their night attire. They have lost everything, including money. The house is insured for £1000 with the New Zealand Insurance Office, but the insurance on the contents is not available.
