HOUSING SCHEME.
STATE JOINERY FACTORIES. (By Telegraph.— Parliamentary Reporter.) C, WELLINGTON, Friday. Two joinery factories are to be erected for the Government during the next few weeks as the initial step in its Dominion-wide housing scheme. One will "be at Kaiwarra, Wellington, and the other at Penrose, Auckland. Planned on a large scale, they will be identical ill design and will be used largely for .the, manufacture of window sashes and doors.- • , It is understood that the Government is establishing them in order that when its housing programme is fairly launched it will riot be "retarded through a shortage of joinery < requirements. It is believed that lise is to be made of Crown properties at Orakei, Auckland) and at Miramar, Wellington. The plans were prepared by Messrs. Lewis, Walker and Ronald Muston. architects, of Auckland, and Messrs. Atkins and Mitchell, architects, of Wellington, will be associated with them in supervising and construction. Tenders for the work will close on September 7.
