DOING WELL.
NGTIUM AT HAWERA. NEXT WEEK'S MEETING. SOME PROMISING -MAIDENS, ■ ; / Heavy rain interfered ! with training operations at the Hawei'a. tracks on Thursday morning, and again all solid work was confined to: the sand track. The'bulk, of the horses engaged at. the Hunt meeting next week, however, have got through plenty of work,, and several of the Hawera horses .can be .expected to make.-, good showings.'-; ..., > r - ..V » ' '
The ilawera maidens, Advance Plane, Shemseh and Kia Tere, will attract attention in the Weraroa Hack Scurry. Advance Plane, who made promising showings in his few starts last season, is an.,'improved gelding, and with S. Anderson as pilot will carry support. Since her opening race Shemseh has not made the progress anti-L-iyr..ed, and her trainer has not done anything beyond light work with her. ib.-_inseh has undoubted pace, but may lack stamina, although she should run prominently in this event. Ivia Tere is a good beginner and is shaping very promisingly, and if started will be hard to beat. Calla•most. Mint Tour and King Pluto will contest the Trial Hunters'.Steeplechase. A trio of good safe jumpers, with Callamost, "who stays on well, likely to be preferred.
Glenthawn and Golden Rill are Hawera representatives in the.:Whenuakura Hack, seven furlongs. Although, she should run prominently, Golden Rill is showing better track;,form and may race welL this season. It is understood that shfe wil)Lvrace in the ownership of the Messrs.. Startflp Brothers, _ who some seasons back" i?aced Calamine,"', Denier and Goldzone.. Glentfiawn, a good type of .gelding,' who is" shortly to be educated as a jumper, is working* really well just now and should keep the opposition busy over the business end of the journey, as he is better conditioned than at any time previously.
Indiscretion's win at' Ellerslie on Wednesday will attract attention to her chances in the EgmontiWanganui Hunt Cup, in which Oriel is engaged. Oriel is also in the Ladies' Bracelet and may be reserved for this race, in which a stablemate in Panloff is also engaged. Both Panloff and, Orjel are working in good style and should run prominently at the meeting. y ' ■ Sceptic continues to please in his schooling work and galloping. He is not engaged on the first day at New Plymouth, but he is to contest the Hunters' Hurdles on the concluding day of the meeting, when he looks certain to give a good account of himself. h" ;V>. Nothing ■is looking or working better than Notium,.-who will ha£e his opening race for. the;.season in the open sprint event. i: 1 • " - ! / N ,w Though lie . has no immediate engagements, Le Grand is being given .'plenty of solid/pace work. ; Gay Step is .'likely to run: otfVthe second day at Plymouth. :* • - Corowa is in steady work ,and will make his next appearance at - the : Marton meeting. i.
