SPRING BULLOCK SALE. HIGH PRICES AT MATIERE. (From Our Own Corraspondent.) TAUMARUNUI, Thursday. One of the keenest and most animated sales seen for several years was witnessed at Matiere on Wednesday when Messrs. Dalgety and Co., Ltd., yarded oyer 700 grown bullocks. Evidence of the interest which the sale had excited was apparent in the record attendance of buyers from I'apakura, Hamilton, Mqrrinsville, Stratford, Hawera, Raetilii, Taihape, Wanganui, Feilding, Palmerston North and laumarunui. The cattle penned were of outstanding quality as far as breed was concerned and although they were mainly in store condition the demand was in no way affected. The advertised cattle sold on account of Messrs. R. T. and M. B. Fullerton-Smith, of Ongarue and Otangir wai, and totalling 540 three and four-year-old steers, realised the highly satisfactory average of £9. Following is a range of the prices obtained:— Forward conditioned Polled Angus bullocks, £10 to £10 2/; store conditioned three and four-year-old Polled Angus steers, £8 15/ to £9 9/; Polled Angus and Shorthorn-cross steers, £9 9/; Shorthorn steers, £8 1/ to £9 4/; Red Polls, £8 16/ to £9 1/; Herefords, £8 14/ to £8 18/. The whole yarding' was cleared under the hammer and, although prices were undoubtedly high, brisk bidding continued during the progress of the sale owing to the shortage of store cattle in many parts of the North Island.
