GAY LAUGHTER.

FREE KINDERGARTEN.

EDEN PARK PROJECT.

JJBLP BY MOTHERS' CI/ITBS.

A new free kindergarten has recently been established in Auckland. Through the generosity of the Eden Park Control Board in allowing part of the pavilion to. be used rent free, the new Haeata Kindergarten —with Mrs. Helen Moore in charge —is housed in sunny roonis below the grandstand and began its existence in the second week of July.

The project l&s met with good support and friends of the movement have been Generous with help and donations. The Mount Eden Borough Council has arranged the distribution of free milk, which is much enjoyed by the children. Particularly encouraging has been the generous financial help given by the mothers' clubs of the other free kindergartens, who have raised money to assist the new venture. -

The committee, which, by the way, is composed largely of Mount Eden women, hopes that a similar group will organise around the new kindergarten and co-operate in the interests of the children. It is hoped to fulfil the needs of the small child for people of his own age to live with for at least a few hours of the day, for plenty of vital interests and sufficient quietness to allow of absorption in the interest „of the moment, for physical care and rest. For success in these aims it is recognised that overcrowding must be steadily guarded against. Those responsible for the conduct of the new kindergarten are: —President, Mrs. K. M. Griffin; honorary treasurer, Mrs. Arthur Gray; honorary .secretary, Mrs. C. L. Gillies; committee, Mesdames T. McNab, W. T. Anderton, Oxley, E. H. Roche, H. P. Johnstone, Pittar, H. M. Scott, F. N. Ambler, P. E. Skeates. S. Morrow, Goodnil, Good, Hudson, F. E. Holland and A. Bishop. The preliminary organisation was the work of Miss Newman, the acting-principal of the Auckland Free Kindergartens.
