CYCLIST THROWN.
UNCONSCIOUS ON ROAD. SKID IN LOOSE METAL. Investigations by the Otahuhu police of an accident which occurred at the corner of Portage Road and Great South Road, at 2.30 yesterday morning, when Mr. John McDonald, aged 37, of 41, Crummer Road, Grey Lyrin, was injured while riding his motor cycle, have shown that he was not struck by a passing motor. Mr. McDonald injured his thumb while working at the Challenge Phosphate Company's factory at Otahuhu, at 1.30 yesterday morning, and was on his way to the hospital for treatment when the accident happened. Two employees of the Otahuhu Borough Council, who were working within 100 yards of where McDonald was found unconscious on the roadside, state that they saw the motor cycle approaching them. They add that there was no motor car near the scene of the accident. It is thought that the motor cycle skidded on some loose metal, throwing the rider. The injured man is progressing satisfactorily.
