CARLTON TENNIS.
The annual meeting of the Carlton Tennis , Club was held at the Royal Oak Hall recently, wheu a good attendance of members was • present. The president, Mr. F. W. Short, in his opening remarks, complimented the club upon the successful, season just over. The club had been successful in. winning seven out of the possible' eight M.T.A. competitive trophies. This club competitions were very keenly contested, and Results were as follow: — Championships, ladies' singles, Miss Laurel Jeffries; gentlemen's singles, R. Stone; ladies' doubles, Mrs.. Gear and Miss Laurel Jeffries;. gentlemen's doubles, Messrs. D. Kidd and D. Pert; combined doubles, Miss T. Hammond and A. Smith; handicapSj ladies' singles, Mrs. Gear; gentlemen's singles, P. Kidd; ladies' doubles, Mrs: F. Davis and Miss T. Hammond; doubles, S. Sutton and • F." Nonthrop; combined doubles, - Mrs. F. Short and Mr. S. Sutton. A cup, presented by the president ■ for" "the most improved player, was won by Mr. I. McGrath.
Officers elected were: Patron, Dr. James Kirkwood; president, Mr. F. W. Short; vice-presidents, Mrs. F. Jeffries, Messrs. A. Coates, R. T. Cavr, D. Kidd, J. Park, and F. Searchfield; secretary and treasurer, Mr. E. W. Rusher; auditor, Mr. D. Dickson; club captain, Mr. D., Dickson; vice-captain, Mr. A. Smith; committee, Mesdames F. Jeffries, Gear, Greenland, Johnson, Miss Jean Price, Messrs. D. Kidd, D. Pert, N. Wright and R. Franklin; selection committee, Mrs. Gear and Messrs. D. Kidd and D. Dickson. In appreciation of services rendered to the club by Mrs. Jeffries, it was unanimously agreed to appoint her a life member.
