MILK IN SCHOOLS.
GRANT FROM DAIRY FUNDS.
FARMERS' OBJECTIONS
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)
PUTARURU, Monday.
Objection to the Government's proposal to grant £10,000 from the dairy industry's funds towards the free distribution of milk to school children was made at a meeting' of the Rotorua executive of the New Zealand Fanners' Union, held at Putaruru.
Mr. J. J. Shine considered it was the responsibility of parents to provide for their children and that State funds should not be so used. Where parents were unable to fulfil their obligations, the charitable institutions were there to fill the breach. No child was allowed to go uncared for.
After further discussion the meeting unanimously resolved that inquiry should be* made as to why £10,000 was to be taken from the dairy industry funds to provide milk for 'schools rather than from the votes to educational, authorities or from the Consolidated Fund;
