CLD POST OFFICE. DEVELOPMENTS AWAITED. The old post office site in Shortland Street has been cleared of debris, and the public find it useful as a short-cut between Shortland Street and Fort Street. On July 10 last the Minister of Public Works, the Hon. R. Semple, visited Auckland to discuss a proposal that the Auckland City Council should acquire the whole of the area, as against a previous proposal that a strip should be acquired for a roadway to provide connection between Shortland Street ancl Fort Street. It was suggested that tlie Victoria Arcade should be extended to make another frontage, or a modern eight-storev building should be erected in its place.

The Auckland City Council it; waiting for advice from the Government in regard to the proposal put forward, and until that conies to hand nothing can be done.
