KING COUNTRY TOURNEY.
CHAMPIONSHIP WON BY SAXDEL. The annual King Country golf championship was played on Saturday at Tarrangower links, which were in excellent order. Entries were received from Te Awnmutu, To Ivuiti, Waimarino A ( Waimarino B, Otorohanga and Taumarunul, and the championship event was followed closely by a large number of spectators. The winner this year was A. Sandel (Taumarunui), who lias won the event previously. He played very steadily throughout the day, and his tine card of 75. in tl\e afternoon put che issue 'beyond doubt, giving lilm four strokes over R: Wallace (Te Awaniiitu), who was runner-up. The teams' championship saw a remarkably close iinish. Te Awamutu and Taumarunui tied with" a score of OS4, lint on the count back over the second round It was found that Te . Awamutu had performed better and were declared the winners. The teams' handicap was' won by Ta'.iniarunui with a score of SOtJ, Waimarino B being runners-iip with 897. The two Wellington .professionals, A. .1. Shaw and Norman Fuller,.gave exhibitions 011 the links on Sunday. . In the morning they played a four-ball with two local players, L. Craig and A. Sandel, and played beautiful golf. Shaw broke the course record with an almost flawless 60. The only hole where he slipped a stroke was at Hlkurangi, where lie took 5 to bogey's 4. SARAZEN PRAISES HORNABROOK.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCIIURCH, Monday. Gene Sarazen and Miss Helen Hicks, the visiting American golfers, finished all squai-e with C. J. Ward, Christchurch Club champion, and H. R. Blair, club professional. in an exhibition at Shirley to-day. Sarazen was round in 72 and Miss Hicks in 70 from the men's tees. The former had three birdies and an eagle. Discussing New Zealand amateurs, Sarazen said Ilornabrook was equal to the Australian Ferrier and would have no difficulty in qualifying in the English Amateur championship.
