TAKANINI HORSES.
PAKURANGA CANDIDATES,
FLOOD TIDE DOING WELL,
There are a number of candidates being prepared for the Pakuranga meeting next Saturday. They are Queen Nona, High Quality, Lady Vaima, Merry Lap, Doric Star, Rothoon, Survanna, Gay Talkie, burella, Joyzelle, and Thurwind. None of these are contesting the more important events, but their efforts 011 this occasion should prove enlightening to their spring prospects. Queen Nona lias been consistent, and during the last season had a long sequence of minor placings to her credit. All unsuccessful trip to Wellington bore no ill-effeets to her condition and she has since worked well. Top-weight in the Auckland Handicap, the King Lu mare has an opportunity of commencing this season well, as she is not meeting the good flats she opposed in her most recent races. A repetition of her best form should find her hard to dispose of. High Quality has not been in work long following an enforced respite, but lie looks well, and if his final track work is productive of anything like his best he should conic into favour for the Ladies' Bracelet, which is not a particularly strong field. ltothoon and Survanna bear brighter appearances as a result of spells, but up to date their public form lias not been too impressive. Possibly some improvement is likely, as they are in better condition, and may race accordingly. Surella Doing Well. The others engaged all claim engagements in the Sylvia Park Handicap, and with the exception of Surella all are maiden performers. Lady Yalma is speedy, but has 110 form to recommend her, but Gay Talkie, 011 the minimum, was a placegetter 011 a number of occasions last season, and should go well. Doric Star is unsound, but the outing should be beneficial if she survives the strain, while Joyzelle's second to Little Ruse at the Opotiki meeting may ensure her getting support. Thurwind is an unraced novice, who will probably find lack of experience detrimental, though he has plenty of speed. Surella is doing well and looks a picture. His final track work will ci'eate interest, and he may be ready to race prominently. Anion is infusing plenty of dash in his work and, looks very well. The Chief liuler colt has not grown to any marked degree since last season, but he looks stronger, and this season should find him well placed 011 the winning list. Invcr bears a bright appearance and is commencing to shape up as the result of serviceable work undertaken during recent weeks. A good colt, I liver's three-year-old programme is unfortunately restricted through his not having been entered for classic events in the Dominion. Ebb and Flow is the latest to resume work, having rejoined F. Smith's active brigade. Ebb and Flow is a big four-year-old by Tidal—Kahu Ariki, and while he did not display a lot of promise as a two-year-old he did not disgrace himself in the races contested at that age. He is a very long-striding gelding and was put aside to mature, and the patient policy adopted may prove to the advantage of his connections when lie ''sports silk this season. To Commence Work. The Limond —Inlaid filly Parquet lias been taken in hand, by C. Morse and is soon to go into active work. At her best Parquet is -a useful filly, and at an •advanped agevniaj&riWove even better. DuVing. tbes>erio<J Bo'wyang was in work lierc the Lord Warden colt showed much promise, and the decision of the owner to take liim back to Ellerslie may prove unlucky for his former trainer, C. Morse, who liud llim going along nicely. Bowyang has only, to maintain the progress made here to be a blight prospect for the Avondale Stakes.- .... . Flood Tide continues to hit out an pleasing style- and his work is being brightened up- in preparation for spring engagements. The gelding looks much better now than at this time last season, and trackwatchers are confident that he will at least prove the equal of our.handicap performers this season. Kgith Lu has been treated to a course of •physic, so that his preparation has not yet commenced seriously. Keith Lu, when again fit and well, should prove an acquisition, for at his best lie is a good performer.
