DESTRUCTION OF DEER
SUCCESSFUL OPERATIONS. SEASON'S TALLY MOUNTING. (By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. As a result of Departmental party operations a total of 10,145 deer and six chamois weiv killed and 10,182 skins recovered during the period from June 1, 1935. to March 31, 1930, according to the annual report of the Department of Internal Affairs, which was tabled in the House of Representatives to-day. It was estimated that by the end of the season, May 31, that the total would reach about 23*500 deer killed and 11,500 skins recovered. A pleasing feature of the season's work was the enthusiasm and energy displayed by the more capable men. In previous years many unsuccessful attempts had been made by members of Departmental parties to bring their season's tally up to 1000, but this season five men had reached this mark, and one man had exceeded 1200. The report adds that there is a keen demand for deer skins, and at times it has not been possible to fulfil orders. The total number sold during the year was 7847.
