AUSTRALIAN SKIERS.

WELCOME AT LUNCHEON,

A large and representative gathering of skiing enthusiasts met at the Royal Hotel yesterday to welcome the party of Australian, skiers who arrived by the Aorangi to compete in the championships at National Park. The welcome took the form of a luncheon arranged by the Ruapeliu Ski Club, who had been delegated by the Federated Mountain Clubs of New Zealand to greet the visitors.

The luncheon was well attended by members of ski, mountain and tramping clubs, the vice-president of the Ruapehu Club, Mr. N. A. Campbell, presiding. In welcoming the visitors Mr. Campbell referred to the great debt New Zealand owed to Mr. T. W. Mitchell, leader of the visiting team, whose advice and encouragement, he said, had been a great factor in the improvement that- had occurred in the sport in the Dominion in recent vears.

Others present at the luncheon included Mrs. W. S. Home, Mrs. Mowatt Smith, Mrs. J. C. Graham, Miss M. Smith, Miss R. Schmidt, Miss M. Goodwin, Miss L. Fraser, Miss J. Thomson, Miss C- Piper, Miss Rowe, Miss B. Mason, Miss M. Home, Miss F. Heron and Miss Thomas.
