AERIAL THRILLS.

DISPLAY AT MANGERE,

A successful and thrilling flying pageant was staged by the Auckland Aero Club at the Mangere Aerodrome on Saturday afternoon, in the presence of a large crowd of spectators. The young New Zealand parachutist G. W. Sellars made two spectacular drops from a De Havilland Moth 'plane piloted by Flight-Lieutenant D. M. Allan. His first drop to earth from the Moth was from a height of 1500 ft, and the second from a height of 5812 ft, when the machine was almost over the Manukau Heads. The fairly strong southerly wind made it imperative for him to leave the machine when it was far away. Both the parachutist and pilot showed good judgment on both occasions, for Mr. Sellars landed close to the hangars on each occasion. In his second jump Mr. Sellars released both parachutes, but after descending a couple of thousand feet he let one go and followed it, down, landing close alongside it. Other thrilling features of the afternoon were realistic bombing demonstrations, a display of aerobatics by Flight-Lieutenant Allan and a mock aerial light between two machines, one of which was "shot" down In flames.
