PROTEST AGAINST WAR
DOMAIN DEMONSTRATION.
As a protest against war and Fascism, j about 250 representatives of various working class organisations and movements held a torchlight procession last I evening from Quay Street West to the j Domain, where speeches were given. A i mist liung over the city last evening . and the flickering torches made a | strange sight as the procession, march-"j ing in columns of four, proceeded | through the streets. The procession, which was headed by | the Takapuna Band, included a number [ of women and children and returned j soldiers. The banners carried called j attention to the dangers of war and j Fascism, and urged the uniting of forces ! to combat them. Some bore slogans associating the marchers with the ! Spanish workers who were lighting Fascist forces. The torches were extinguished at the Domain gates and. after the banners had been planted in the grounds, were j relighted. A number of speakers then I spoke from the grandstand on the ! objects of the Movement Against War I and Fascism, and resolutions were : passed pledging support to prevent war. | Some of the addresses, which were i relayed by amplifiers, were rather I inaudible, and this fact, combined with the cold, resulted in a section of the gathering of several hundreds graduj ally dispersing before the conclusion of [the proceedings.
