BARTER AGREEMENT.
Australian State and Germany Negotiating. MACHINERY FOR WOOL. (Received 3 0.30 a.m.) LONDON, August 3. The Sun-Herald news service understand that an Australian State Government is ingeniously endeavouring to take advantage of Germany's barter system without conceding a principle which is against Commonwealth policy. It is negotiating for the purchase of £50,000 worth of dredging machinery obtainable only in Germany, stipulating that the purchase money be spent on Australian wool. It is also hoped to secure advantage of the German export bounty, saving the Government several thousands of pounds.
