RISING BALANCE.
Australia's Overseas Trade on
Right Side,
£22,521,000 SURPLUS,
CANBERRA, August 3,
Australia's favourable overseas trade balance for the year ended June 30 last was £22,521,000, compared with £16,100,000 for the previous year and £37,800,000 in 1933-34. This balance normally would not be sufficient to meet Australia's obligations abroad without drawing on London funds. It is stated, however, that recently there has been a large flow of capital into Australia for investment, with the nyilt that the London funds will not have to be drawn upon. The Treasury declines to disclose the amount to the credit of London funds, but it is believed that it is less than £40,000,000, compared with £b8,000,00U two years ago.
