APPLES SLOW OF SALE.
VEGETABLE SECTION FIRM. SHIPMENT OF PINEAPPLES. Applets were plentiful at the City Markets to-day and a slow sale resulted. For pears, tree tomatoes and hothouse tomatoes there was a fair demand. Good supplies of Island oranges were offered, but had only a. weak inquiry. Choice lemons and large locally grown grapefruit had a fairly ready sale. A good demand tor pineapples was well supplied by the fresh shipment which arrived to-day by the Marama, the fruit being in first-class order. The first Calitornian grapes of the reason are due by the Mariposa ou inday. Quotations: — Apples: Delicious, 2/(5 to 4/ per case; Ballarat, 6/ to 8/; Dougherty, 4/ to o/; Granny Smith, 5/ to 8/; Jonathan, 5/0 to 8/; Munro, 4/ to 5/0; Statesman, 6/; Stunner, 5/ to 7/0; Winesap, 5/ to 8/0. Pears: Keiffers, 4/ to 5/0; P. Barry, 4/ to 6/; Winter Coles and Winter Nelis, 0/ to 0/. Tomatoes: Hothouse, 0d to 1/3 per lb. Tree tomatoes: New black, 0/ to 0/0 per case; yellow, 4/ to 0/. Oranges: Cook Islands, 15/ to 20/. Grapefruit: Now Zealand, extra choice, 0/ to 8/; others, 3/ to 5/. Lemons: Choice cured, 7/0 to 9/6; others, 3/ to 0/6. Bananas: Ripe, 12/ to 10/. Grapes: Colman, 1/9 to 3/ per lb.
Passion fruit: 10/ to 18/ per case. Vegetables. Prices for cauliflower to-day were much higher than last week, although fair supplies were available. Heavy quantities of cabbage sold at slightly advanced prices, while carrots and beetroot also improved in value. Pumpkins were in short supply, choice quality realising high prices, while iieavy offerings of swedes brought prices a little lower. Kumaras, both Island and Tauranga, were in good supply and met with a satisfactory demand. Selling rates were as follow:—Cockerels, heavy breeds, prime, 4/6 to 6/9 each; not prime, 2/6 up; light breeds, prime, 3/ to 5/; not prime, 2/ up; fat roosters, heavy breeds, 2/6 to 3/6; light breeds, 2/ to 2/6; fat liens, heavy breeds, 3/ to 4/3; light breeds, 2/ to 3/; pullets, heavy breeds, best, 4/ to 4/6; smaller, 1/6 up; light breeds, best, 3/6 to 4/6; smaller, 1/6 up; drakes, young, prime, 3/ to 4/6; smaller, 1/6 up; ducks, young, 2/6 to 3/6; old, 1/6 to 2/6; drakes, old, 1/6 to 2/6; guinea fowls, 3/6 to 4/6. Butter and Eggs. Egg prices fell a further Id yesterday, lien: Firsts, 1/3% per dozen; B, .1/2%; C, ll%d. Duck: Firsts, 1/3%; B, 1/2%; C, 1/0%. Farmers' Butter—l/ 0% to 1/2% per lb.
