GOLD IN FIJI.
FIFTY YEARS AGO AND NOW. (From Our Own Correspondent.) SUVA, July 2S. A local resident owns an interesting mining scrip stating "Fiji Prospecting Company. In 54 shares of £10 each of which 24 shares are paid to £10 each No. 46 This is to certify that H. T. Waring is the proprietor of one fiftyfourth paid-up share in the above company." The scrip is dated "Suva, 1856." So there were suggestions that gold existed in Fiji away hack in those clays. The Mount Kasi Company has announced that for the period from May 10 to June 4, 1936, it treated 730 tons, and produced 407 ounces of bullion at an estimated value of £3026 iftistralian currency. For the four weeks ended July 4, the company treated 807 tons, and produced 2.i2 ounces of bullion, at an estimated value of £1861 Australian currency.
