GIFT TO GERMANY?
Strips of Territory in Africa. DENIAL OF SUCH A PLAN. (Received 2 p.m.) RUGBY, July 29. In the House of Commons, Mr. G. Mander (Lib., East Wolverhampton) questioned the Prime Minister, Mr. Baldwill, regarding the plan disclosed by
Mr. O. Pirow, South African Minister of Defence, and placed by him before the British Government when in London recently. This was for European Powers with African possessions each to give a portion in order to make room for Germany.
]\lr. Mander asked whether any of the Powers in question had been approached or had signified their willingness to enter into such an arrangement under any circumstances.
Mr. Baldwin replied that no such plan had been communicated to the Government, nor, so far as he was aware, to any other Government. The second part of the question did not, therefore, arise.
