TAXI DRIVERS.
AUCKLAND DELEGATES.
INTERVIEWING MINISTER,
Two delegates from the New Zealand Drivers' Federation. Messrs. M. G. Osborne and L. G. Matthews, are now in Wellington and to-morrow will interview the Minister of Transport, the Hon. R. Semple, to discuss the position of taxi drivers throughout the Dominion.
The object of the delegates is to ask the Minister for a complete investigation into the whole taxi business. On Monday last " tlie delegates discussed the position with Mr. E. P. Meachen, the member for Wairaui
In reply to a communication sent to him last month, Mr. Semple informed the Drivers' Federation that he would set up a commission to inquire into the taxi business in the Dominion and that legislation would ,be enacted to prevent employers in the industry from exading awards by putting their employees on the "share system"; also that in order to improve the standard of tjie men employed as taxi drivers the licensing would be under the control of the police.
