Match With Auckland — Game
At Carlaw Park
After a strenuous tour of Australia, where they were victorious in winning the rubber in the Test matches, the English Rugby League team commenced the New Zealand portion of their tour this afternoon at Carlaw Park, when they met the Auckland representative League team. Ovorniglit there had been rain, but to-day was bright and clear, and although the ground was on the holding side the conditions were good for the big match, which attracted wide interest and many visitors to Auckland. Hie crowd began to gather early at Carlaw Park, and towards the starting time of the big match there was a large attendance.
Tho visitors had a good weather trip by the Monterey from Sydney, and were confident of making a showing in keeping with their reputation of being one of "the best all-round teams that has been sent on tour from England.
Jn tho selected team is Brough, the captain, who has previously visited New Zealand. Of the other backs Hudson and Risman have previously played in Auckland, but to complete the line the Englishmen had to bring in McCue, who is one of the half-backs of the team. Tho forward line included Hodgson, one of the. outstanding forwards of the previous English team. The teams were: — England. Full-back: J. Brougli. Three-quarters: A. Edwards, A. J. Risman, T. McCue, B. Hudson. Halves: E. Jenkins, W. Watkins. Forwards: N. Silcock, T. Armitt, H. Woods, M. Hodgson, G. H. F.xley, H. Beverley. Auckland. Full-back: C. Dcmpsey. .Three-quarters: R. Bright, W. littleton, L. Brown. Five-eighths: A. Kay, W. Stockley. Half-back: Powell. Forwards: A. Gault, J. Satherley, F. Pickrang, J. Breed, S. Watene, H. Tctley. Refel'ee: Mr. M. Wetlierill.
