PALESTINE INQUIRY.

COMMISSION APPOINTED. RUGBY, July 23. The Colonial Secretary, Mr. W. Ormsby-Gore, stated in the House of Commons that he hoped to announce the personnel of the Palestine Commission and its terms of reference next Wednesday. The commission obviously could not go to Palestine, where the position was still serious, until sufficient order had been restored to enable it to make its investigation.

The Minister referred to a suggested temporary suspension of immigration while the commission carries out its inquiry. He said he was not in a position at present to make any statement as to the intentions of the Government beyond saying that its decision would be made in due course on the merits of the case. It would not be influenced by violence or by attempts at intimidation.
