I the moment Auckland's finest public ; garden looks a little drab, but the | approaching spring will see a complete I transformation, and if the efforts of i | busy staff bring about the expectec • results the park will present an unusu ally colourful scene. Few people realise the work entailer or the number of plants used in makin; the park the wonderful garden that it i at the height of the flowering seasons For the spring display the staff durin; recent weeks has planted over 17.00' plants and there is still one more bet of 000 larkspurs to be completed. Along the border fronting Prince Street have been planted 3000 anemone. l 1000 violas and 1000 stock. In th : | beds surrounding the fountain there ar ; 4000. ranuncula, 2000 violas and 40 ! | pansy plants. There are also two bed ! of stock containing in all 700 plants. | There are two beds each containin I 40° tulips and bordering .the tulips ar I 1000 violas. In what is known as Boyd' border are 2000 annuals, and there is als< a bed of 200 cannas, comprising 24 varie ties.
